ANDREW SAUNDERS

President & CEO

Andrew Saunders is the President and CEO of The Globe and Mail, overseeing all aspects of Canada's national newspaper, its business magazine, digital advertising network, digital platforms and events and conference lines of business. With over 20 years of experience at The Globe, he brings expertise in revenue generation and management, business transformation, change management and digitization, data analytics & consumer insights,  technology implementation, branding and performance marketing, pricing optimization and more.

In his previous role as Chief Revenue Officer at The Globe, Andrew was responsible for shaping the monetization strategy and driving the business transition from print to digital across all facets of the business, including subscription revenue, licensing, advertising sales, events and conference business, data engineering & analytics, digital media/UX and consumer marketing.

In his capacity as President and CEO, Andrew Saunders is dedicated to maintaining The Globe and Mail’s journalistic excellence and steering it towards innovation in the ever-evolving media landscape.

DAVID WALMSLEY

Editor-in-Chief

David Walmsley was appointed the Editor-in-Chief of The Globe and Mail in March 2014. His appointment returned him to The Globe where he previously worked as the Managing Editor and National Editor. Under his editorship, The Globe and Mail has won the Michener Award, National Newspaper Awards, top honours among an international field at the global Online Journalism Awards and a series of Eppy awards recognizing digital excellence.

David previously held senior positions at the CBC in Toronto and Ottawa, Toronto Star and National Post. He began his career at The Belfast Telegraph where he was named Northern Ireland Young Journalist of the Year in 1995. He also worked for The Daily Record in Scotland, and The Daily Mail and The Daily Telegraph in London.

Rita Trichur

Senior Business Writer & Columnist

Rita Trichur is an award-winning journalist. She is a Senior Business Writer and Columnist in the Report on Business. Her previous roles at The Globe and Mail include Senior Editor, Financial Services Editor and Canadian business columnist for the Report on Business Magazine. Rita returned to Globe in July 2016 after spending about two and a half years as a reporter for The Wall Street Journal’s Canada bureau. She primarily covered domestic banks and insurance companies from Toronto, but also wrote a variety of other stories about Canada for the U.S. newspaper. Prior to WSJ, Rita spent more than three years at the Globe, initially working as a general assignment reporter in the Report on Business before covering the telecom beat. Rita has also covered financial services and economics for the Toronto Star, and has held various roles at the Canadian Press and the Ottawa Sun. She got her first byline at age six when the Toronto Star published her short story about a fish-stealing cat and paid her $10. Rita, who also speaks French, was born in Toronto. She has a Bachelor of Journalism and Political Science and an M.A. in Canadian Studies — both from Carleton University in Ottawa.

Laura Stone

Queen’s Park Reporter

Laura Stone is a reporter for The Globe and Mail's Queen's Park bureau. She joined the Globe in February 2016, reporting on federal politics in the Ottawa Parliamentary bureau until October 2018. Before that, she was an online and TV reporter for Global News in Ottawa. Laura was the first recipient of the Michelle Lang award at the Calgary Herald, where she wrote a national series about women’s prisons. In 2015, she won the Canadian Journalism Foundation’s Greg Clark Award, which allowed her inside the RCMP’s Senate investigation. Most of all, Laura likes to profile politicians over lunch.

Mark MacKinnon

Senior Foreign Correspondent

Mark MacKinnon is currently based in London, where he is The Globe's Senior International Correspondent, reporting on the Syrian refugee crisis, the rise of Islamic State, the war in eastern Ukraine and Scotland's independence referendum. He spent five years as The Globe’s Beijing correspondent, winning accolades for his investigations into the garment industry in Asia and the 2011 tsunami and nuclear disaster in Japan. Mark has also been posted to the Middle East and Moscow.

A seven-time National Newspaper Award winner, Mark is also the author of The New Cold War: Revolutions, Rigged Elections and Pipeline Politics and The China Diaries, an e-book of his train travels through the Middle Kingdom.

Cathal Kelly

Sports Columnist

As The Globe’s national sports columnist, Cathal Kelly is Canada’s leading voice on the subject. From issues to profiles and beyond, he takes readers outside the field of play with elegant, thoughtful and unexpected writing on concussions, performance-enhancing drugs and geopolitics in sports. He is a must read for hardcore and casual sports fans, and is The Globe’s top voice at the world’s most glamorous sporting events, from World Cups to the Olympics. Mr. Kelly joined The Globe in 2014, has been a National Newspaper Award finalist for short feature writing and his work is included in The Best Canadian Sports Writing.
